Dear Guests, Friends and Family.
It is with much sadness and humility that we are announcing that we are closing our hotel operations effective February 2018 due to various factors.
As some of you may be aware Hotel Sun Lun Yik has been part of Seremban for almost 3 generations. The building that we are in was built in the early 1900s.
When we started the plans for the rejuvenation of the Hotel in 2013, we had a romantic goal of relaunching the Hotel to hopefully kickstart a renewed interest in Seremban and the local community.
In the short time that the new Sun Lun Yik has been in operation, we have been rated as high as No.2 in Seremban on TripAdvisor, we have a 4.9 star rating on our Facebook page, and have top reviews on AirBnB. However, the economic reality in today's economy that a hotel of our size would always struggle to maintain profitability.
It has been our pleasure to have hosted each and every one of our guests. The Hotel has hosted various weddings, meetings, family reunions, group holidays and church group retreats. We have even been a venue for a local TV drama filming. We are extremely grateful for the support shown to us and we hope that we can continue to count on your support in our transition.
We are proud that we have successfully introduced contemporary arts and culture to the local community in Seremban, primarily through our support and sponsorship of the sembilan Arts Residency Program (“sembilan”). To date, we have been proud to host 12 amazingly talented artists in Seremban. Who would have thought that we could attract not just local Malaysian artists but hosted artists from France, Russia and Iran. To that end, our support of sembilan will continue. We hope that you also continue to support and follow the sembilan Arts Residency Program.
What is our next step?
We continue to believe in the transformative power of the Arts in our local community. We continue to be a partner of the sembilan Arts Residency Program.
Our vision to inspire investment, interest and growth in the local Seremban community via the Arts remains as strong as ever. As such, we will continue to host local artists in our building in Seremban. We are “doubling-up” in our vision by opening up our premise to other artists and other art forms. While we previously limited ourselves to visual artists, we are keen to hear from artists in the performing arts, authors, photographers, actors, dancers, directors, etc.
The format and details of this next step has yet to be formalised. If you share a similar vision and/or goal, please do get in touch with us (contact details below).
Again, we thank you and we count on your continued support of the local Arts.
